Villarreal seeking back-to-back victories as Las Palmas visits.

After the win over Espanyol, the Yellow Submarine take on La Liga's bottom-side, Las Palmas, hoping to win successive matches for the second time this season. Villarreal vs. Las Palmas kicks off at 20:00 [GMT+1] on Monday, September 30, at Estadio de la Cerámica. Villarreal bounced back from a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona with a comeback 2-1 victory over Espanyol away from home. The Yellow Submarine went behind when Jofre Carreras [45'+1] scored for Espanyol in stoppage time, but they went into the break level as Ayoze Pérez [45'+6] found the net before the Spaniard completed his brace just after the hour mark [63’]. Manager Marcelino believed “it was a very well-deserved victory.” Villarreal are 5th on the La Liga table with 14 points after seven matches [4W, 2D, & 1L], level on points with 4th-placed Mallorca, who are ahead due to a superior goal difference. They have won three of their last five matches [WDWLW] but have failed to win consecutive matches since beating Sevilla and Celta Vigo on Match Days 2 and 3. Next in line for the Yellow Submarine is a home game against Las Palmas, a side they have beaten just three times in their last nine LL meetings [3W, 1D, & 5L] despite winning their first three top-flight meetings against them. However, playing on Monday has brought good fortune for the hosts, having won six of their last 10 such games [6W, 2D, & 2L]. A 4—4—2 with Pérez and Thierno Barry in attack is expected for Monday's clash. Las Palmas are the only La Liga team without a win so far [0W, 3D, & 4L]. The visitors have three points from seven matches, which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table. Luis Carrión's side put an end to a three-match losing streak [DLLLD] with a 1-1 draw at home to Real Betis last time out, but the manager still rallied for more after the game. "We all have room for improvement and can do better," he said in his post-match interview. Las Palmas have beaten Villarreal in their last two league meetings and could pick up three wins in a row over the hosts. "A victory will help us feel better,” Carrión said in his pre-match press conference. Los Amarillos have also won two of their last four away games against the Yellow Submarine [2W, 0D, & 2L] after failing to win any of their first seven visits [0W, 3D, & 4L]. A 4—1—3—2 with Fábio Silva and Alberto Moleiro in attack is expected against Villarreal.

Athletic Club eye four consecutive victories in Sevilla clash.

Athletic Bilbao vs. Sevilla CF kicks off at 15:15 (GMT+1) on Sunday, September 29, at San Mamés. Athletic Club kicked off their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Roma on Thursday. The Lions were edging close to defeat after Artem Dovbyk [32'] scored for Roma in the first half, but Aitor Paredes secured a point with a late goal [85']. Athletic Club will now refocus their energy on La Liga, where they are hoping to extend their winning run to four matches [WLWWW]. The Basque club picked up a 3-1 win against Celta Vigo in their last league outing, leaving them in 5th place with 13 points [4W, 1D, & 2L]. With a home game against Sevilla coming up next, Athletic Club will be hoping to win three straight La Liga games against the visitors without conceding for the second time in history after doing so in 1972. The Lions are also looking to win four LL games in a row while scoring two or more goals for the first time since March 2016. However, the hosts have lost three of their last five home games against Sevilla in LL, having won each of the previous nine at home against them. Ernesto Valverde lined up a 4—2—3—1 with Gorka Guruzeta in attack last time out and is expected to retain the shape against Sevilla. After failing to win any of their first four league games of the season [0W, 2D, & 2L], Sevilla have now won two of the last three [DLWLW], leaving them in 13th place with eight points. Sevilla recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid in their last league game. Los Nervionenses went ahead when Valladolid defender David Torres [45’ O.G.] put the ball into his own net, but parity was restored via Kike Pérez [56'] in the second half. With the game heading for a draw, Chidera Ejuke [85'] stepped up to score his first goal for Sevilla, handing the club all three points. García Pimienta's side will travel to Athletic Club looking to improve their recent away record after losing three of their five games on the road in La Liga [0W, 2D, & 3L]. However, things are not looking positive, as Los Nervionenses have lost each of their last five visits to Basque sides in LL, conceding at least two goals in each of those five games. Defeat on Sunday will see Sevilla lose six such games in a row for the first time since September 1982, when they lost eight in a row. A 4—2—3—1 with Dodi Lukebakio in attack is likely to be seen for Sunday's clash. Marcos do Nascimento Teixeira [R. 90'] was sent off against Valladolid and is suspended for this game.

Atlético de Madrid take on Real in Sunday's Madrid derby.

After a midweek win over Celta Vigo, the Mattress Makers take on Real Madrid in Sunday’s Madrid derby, hoping to leapfrog Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Atlético de Madrid vs. Real Madrid kicks off at 20:00 [GMT+1] on September 29 at the Civitas Metropolitano. Sunday's Madrid derby will see ATL. Madrid go head-to-head with Real for the city’s bragging rights in the Spanish capital as both sides battle for the highly sought-after spot behind table-topping Barcelona. After a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the midweek round of fixtures, Sunday's derby will be the home side's toughest task yet, having moved one spot up the table into 3rd place. Atletico Madrid have 15 points [4W, 3D, 0L] ahead of this fixture. Having gone 11 Madrid derbies in a row without defeat in La Liga [5W, 6D, 0L] since a 1-2 win over Real Madrid in September 2022, the Mattress Makers will be looking to remain unbeaten here. Escaping defeat will leave Atlético de Madrid with a nine-game unbeaten run in La Liga, having gone eight games without defeat [5W, 3D, 0L]. It remains their best unbeaten run in the competition since a 13-match run between January and April 2023 [10W, 3D, 0L]. A win for Diego Simeone’s side will see the home side leapfrog Real Madrid, who are 2nd on the league standings ahead of the weekend derby. A 5—3—2 with Julián Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann in attack is anticipated against Real Madrid. Real Madrid swept Alaves aside in a 3-2 win in the midweek round of fixtures. While it doesn't come close as a litmus test for their readiness, the midweek win would do well to keep Madrid in high spirits before Sunday’s derby. However, the La Liga champions haven't particularly done well in recent visits to Atletico. Real Madrid have won only two of their seven visits to the Cívitas Metropolitano in La Liga [2W, 3D, 2L]. Meanwhile, the Whites, who will be coming off the back of a four-game winning run [DWWWW] when they make the short trip across town for the derby, have won 36 of their 87 away derbies against Atlético de Madrid in LaLiga [36W, 25D, 26L]. Victory here would see Madrid equal the record for away wins by one team against another in the entire history of the competition. A 3—1—4—2 with Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior in attack is expected. Camavinga did part of the training with the group, while Brahim Díaz, David Alaba, Ceballos, and Mbappé continued with their recovery.

Barcelona eyeing eight consecutive wins in Osasuna clash.

CA Osasuna vs. Barcelona kicks off at 20:00 [GMT+1] on Saturday, September 28, at Estadio El Sadar. A goalless draw against Valencia in midweek leaves Osasuna [LWLWD] in seventh place, tied on points with sixth-place Villareal, who boast a superior goal difference. ‘Despite drawing, we wanted to win, but we really value the work we have done,’ Vicente Moreno said after the game. ‘We're doing well now, with 11 points, which isn't bad at all,’ the manager continued. ‘You have to make an assessment of where you come from; we come from playing on a Monday, then Saturday, and then Tuesday,’ he added on the fixture congestion, which includes this weekend’s encounter with Barcelona. Game week eight’s encounter against Barcelona presents a daunting task for Los Rojillos, who have lost their last six games [0W, 0D, 6L] against this weekend’s opponents, with five of the defeats coming in the league. However, recent home form offers a silver lining going into this clash. The hosts have won their last three home league games and will fancy their chances of extending the streak when they welcome Barcelona this weekend. Moreno is expected to stick to the familiar 4—3—3, with Moi Gómez, Raúl García, and Rubén Peña in attack. While Barcelona were not at their well-known best, having scored 24 goals prior to Wednesday’s game, they still got the job done with a 1-0 victory over stubborn Getafe. Robert Lewandowski’s goal [19’] midway through the first half proved to be enough to secure a seventh consecutive league win [WWWWW] for the Catalan giants. ‘I’ve been told that it’s normal against Getafe; they’re a good defensive team,’ said recently appointed manager Hansi Flick after the win. With the victory, the Blaugrana sit atop the La Liga table, four points clear of title rivals Real Madrid, and just one win away from matching the record start of eight straight victories set by Gerardo Martino’s Barça side in 2013/14. ‘When I started, I didn’t know the record was eight wins,’ Flick remarked. ‘I don’t care about records and these things,’ claimed the German manager, who would, however, aim to take all three points when his team travels to Osasuna this weekend. Barcelona have recorded wins in three of their last four [3W, 1D, 0L] visits to Osasuna and will be looking to do so once again this weekend. Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Lewandowski could start in attack in Flick’s 4—3—3. Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal is in doubt for Saturday’s clash following a bruised ankle sustained in midweek. In a recent development, the club agreed to a one-year deal with Wojciech Szczęsny as an option between the sticks following an ACL injury to Marc-André ter Stegen, who is ruled out for the season.

Real Valladolid hoping to end five-match winless run in Mallorca clash.

After the defeat to Sevilla, Valladolid take on Mallorca, hoping to end a five-match winless run. Real Valladolid vs. RCD Mallorca kicks off at 20:00 [GMT+1] on Friday, September 27, at Estadio José Zorrilla. Valladolid are coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla. David Torres [O. G. 45'], just before the break, put Valladolid behind with an own goal, but parity was restored by Kike Perez [56'] four minutes before the hour mark. However, Chidera Ejuke [85'] found the net for Sevilla with five minutes left to play, leaving Paulo Pezzolano's side with a fourth defeat in seven league games [1W, 2D, & 4L]. ‘We are leaving hurt because we were convinced that we could take the result,’ Pezzolano said in the press conference after the match. Albivioletas [DLLDL] are without a win in five games, while in 18th place with five points, a streak they hope to end when they face Mallorca on home soil this Friday. However, the newly promoted side have teething problems that manager Pezzolano must sort out if they are to return to winning ways. Valladolid have the worst defensive record in La Liga, having conceded 15 goals [2.14 GCPG], while they also have the joint-worst attack alongside Getafe, having only found the back of the net three times [0.42 GPG]. However, the home side has historically dominated this fixture on home soil, winning 13 of the 21 home games against Mallorca in La Liga [13W, 4D, & 4L]. They will be hoping to do so once again when they deploy the 4—3—3 with Darwin Machis, Marcos André, and Amath Ndiaye in attack. Mallorca have made a fine start to this La Liga campaign, which has left them in 5th place having picked up 11 points from seven matches [3W, 2D, & 2L]. Los Piratas [DWLWW] came from behind to pick up an impressive 2-1 win away at Real Betis in their last match thanks to a late winner from Valery Fernández [93']. ‘It's a victory at very difficult ground and against a great opponent,’ Jagoba Arrasate said after the win over Betis. ‘I think today is a great day because it's not easy to win on these pitches,’ he added. Mallorca's fine start has been driven by their defensive solidity, with the visitors conceding only five goals so far [0.71 GCPG], leaving them as joint-second for least goals conceded alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid. Arrasate will be hoping their defensive record comes into play on Friday as they look to extend their winning run to three games in a row when they make the trip to Valladolid. A 4—2—3—1 with Cyle Larin in attack is expected.

Atlético de Madrid take on Celta Vigo after derby draw.

After a weekend defeat to Athletic Club, the Sky Blues make a return in this midweek clash against the Mattress Makers, hoping to return to winning ways. Celta de Vigo vs. Atlético de Madrid kicks off at 20:00 [GMT+1] on Thursday, September 26, at Balaídos. A goal from the penalty spot via Iago Aspas [25’ P.] failed to earn Celta Vigo any point at the weekend after a brace from Gorka Guruzeta [4’, 39’] and a goal from Álvaro Djaló [80’] left them at the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline against Athletic Club. The Sky Blues dropped into 9th place with 9 points, having lost just as many games as they have won [3W, 0D, 3L]. Celta Vigo [WLLWL] will return in this midweek clash against Atletico Madrid, hoping to get back to winning ways. However, their recent record with the Mattress Makers has been nothing short of shocking. The Sky Blues are on a six-game losing run against Atletico Madrid, escaping defeat only once in eight meetings [0W, 1D, 7L]. Vigo, however, will be counting on their home form, with all three victories this season coming in front of the home crowd. Claudio Giráldez González, who has a 50% win ratio with the club [16G: 8W, 2D, 6L], deployed a 3—4—3 for the game against Athletic Club. He is expected to keep the same shape in place this midweek with Jonathan Bamba, Anastasios Douvikas, and Iago Aspas in attack. As many as three, including Javier Manquillo, are ruled out of this fixture. Conor Gallagher appears to be settling well into life at Atletico Madrid, having helped his side salvage a point in a 1-1 draw in the weekend’s Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano. It was the second La Liga goal for the 24-year-old English midfielder. Before Gallagher’s goal [50’], Vallecano took the lead via Isi Palazón [35’]. ‘We were missing everything in the first half. We have to push harder. Everyone has to run; you don’t win just because of the shirt,' Koke said in a post-match interview after the derby draw. ATL. Madrid remained in 4th place following the draw, their third such result since the season kicked off. The Mattress Makers have 12 points [3W, 3D, 0L] ahead of the midweek round of fixtures, trailing rivals, table-topping Barcelona [18 points] and 2nd-placed Real Madrid with [14 points], by six and two points, respectively. With their impressive H2H record against Celta Vigo, this midweek trip looks like a ripe opportunity to earn three points as Diego Simeone’s side looks to close in on the duo in the early race for top places. A 5—3—2 with Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth in attack is anticipated for this midweek clash.
