At RCDE Stadium on Saturday, Deportivo Alavés faced a challenging encounter, succumbing to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Espanyol. One goal became the deciding factor in the La Liga clash, resulting in a disappointing outcome for Deportivo Alavés.

Espanyol started the match best and took the lead when Javi Puado netted after 21 minutes, with an assist by Álvaro Tejero, making it 1-0.

Deportivo Alavés equalised to make it 1-1, when Tomás Conechny found the net, in the 35th minute.

With 56 minutes on the clock, Espanyol's Javi Puado found the net following a Álvaro Tejero assist to give Espanyol the lead.

In the 63rd minute, Javi Puado increased the lead for Espanyol and then completed a hatrick.

Deportivo Alavés reduced the score to 3-2 just five minutes later as Nahuel Tenaglia scored, with an assist by Joan Jordán.

The result leaves Espanyol in ninth place, while Deportivo Alavés are in sixth place.

Espanyol play Real Madrid on 21 September, Villarreal on 26 September and Real Betis (away) on 29 September. Deportivo Alavés' next opponents are Sevilla on 20 September, Real Madrid on 24 September and Getafe (away) on 28 September.
