At RCDE Stadium on Saturday, Rayo Vallecano faced a challenging encounter, succumbing to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Espanyol. One goal became the deciding factor in the La Liga clash, resulting in a disappointing outcome for Rayo Vallecano.

Rayo Vallecano chocked Espanyol when Álvaro García netted in the fourth minute, with an assist from Adrián Embarba.

Espanyol equalised to 1-1 early in the match when Carlos Romero made his mark as he found the net, with an assist by Jofre Carreras, in the 8th minute.

The deciding goal came in stoppage time, when Alejo Véliz scored for Espanyol, with an assist by Walid Cheddira, to complete Espanyol's come back.

Espanyol are now in 14th place in the table, while Rayo Vallecano are 11th in the league.

The next La Liga games for Espanyol are Deportivo Alavés (home) on 14 September, Real Madrid (away) on 22 September and Villarreal (home) on 25 September. Rayo Vallecano play Osasuna (home) on 16 September, Atlético Madrid (home) on 22 September and Girona (away) on 25 September.
