After securing a 3-2 victory away at BayArena against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, RB Leipzig now find themselves at the top of the Bundesliga table after two games played, leading Borussia Dortmund by two points. Bayer 04 Leverkusen occupies the ninth spot in the league standings.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen took the lead in the 39th minute thanks to a goal by Jeremie Frimpong, ending the goalless stretch.

RB Leipzig equalised 1-1 just before the half-time whistle as Kevin Kampl netted, with an assist by Benjamin Henrichs.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen took the lead right after this when Alejandro Grimaldo found the net, with an assist by Florian Wirtz.

With 57 minutes on the clock, RB Leipzig's Loïs Openda found the net following a Benjamin Šeško assist to equalise.

Loïs Openda again scored the decider with an assist by Antonio Nusa, in the 80th minute to complete RB Leipzig's come back.

'It's hard; it's bitter,' Xabi Alonso said. 'I don't think we deserved to lose today,' he added after the defeat brought an end to a 35-game Bundesliga unbeaten run.

Leverkusen were one result away from matching Hamburg's tally of 36 games unbeaten in 1982-83.
