After an opening day draw with Augsburg, Bremen will take on Dortmund on Match Day 2, as they go in search of a maiden season win. Werder Bremen vs. Borussia Dortmund begins at 14:30 [GMT+1] on Saturday, April 31 at Weserstadion.
Werder Bremen got their Bundesliga season off to a start with a topsy-turvy 2-2 draw against Augsburg after initially taking the lead. Felix Agu [12’] put Die Werderaner in front inside the first fifteen minutes before Augsburg restored parity at the WWK Arena via Elvis Rexhbecaj [16’]. Moments later, Augsburg took the lead. However, Justin Njinmah [58’] came off the bench, after a lengthy injury layoff for the leveller to help Ole Werner’s side salvage a point. With the opening-day draw, Bremen have gone without a win in an opening-day match for the 10th successive time [0W, 4D, 6L]. While a difficult encounter against Dortmund is expected on Match Day 2, Werder Bremen will be eager to escape defeat when they host the Black & Yellows on home turf in what will be the 111th meeting between the two sides. Despite the opening day draw, Ole Werner was pleased with a point. ‘I’m able to live with the point,’ he said after the game, before speaking on his side’s missed chances. ‘If we’d been more clinical in the final third, then we could have managed to take all three points,’ he added. On Saturday, he will be hoping to pick up that many number of points against Dortmund when he deploys the 3—5—2. Marvin Ducksch and Keke Topp will be in attack once again.
A comfortable 2-0 victory over Frankfurt helped Dortmund to a winning start last weekend. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens [72’, 90’+3] came up with a brace off the bench to rescue Dortmund. With the opening-day win, back-to-back victories shouldn't be too far away for Dortmund. A result that would mean a maiden win for Nuri Şahin as manager following Edin Terzic’s departure. While the BVB haven't played any other side more often, they remain unbeaten in the last eight visits to Werder Bremen [6W, 2D, 0L]. That fine run of form on the road against the hosts would leave Dortmund confident of returning as happy travellers. A 3—4—2—1 with Karim Adeyemi in attack is expected. 'Yan Couto is out. He has a slight injury,' Şahin said in a pre-match press conference on Thursday. ‘He will stay with us during the international break. We hope he'll be back the week before Heidenheim and be available then,’ he added. Serhou Guirassy [knee injury] also remains unavailable, while Kjell Wätjen is expected to make a return after the international break.
